Renovations - turning the chain bushings

Maximize the service life of your undercarriage

Taking proper care of the track chains undercarriages can markedly reduce the cost of your machine run-hour. We have high-performance presses and any other equipment needed to repair the chains - your undercarriage will receive all the required services at competitive prices agreed beforehand.

Oil-lubricated bulldozer chains

If the bushings are turned, re-sealed and their oil charge replenished in good time, the chain can be restored to the as-made condition. At the time when the chain bushings reach their limit wear, the remaining undercarriage components are often at just about 50% of their life span (i.e. of their limit wear & tear, as dependent on operational conditions). Timely turning of the bushings will prevent premature perforation of the bushing walls, damage to the pins and increase of spaces (lengthening of the track), which would result in the destruction of driving wheels and untimely in demise of the entire undercarriage.

The operation of turning the oil-lubricated chain bushings covers:

  • disassembling the track shoes; pressing the chain open;
  • cleaning thoroughly all parts; replacing those excessively worn out;
  • turning the pins and bushings by 180 °; applying new sealant;
  • pressing the chain closed; checking tightness; replenishing oil; re-assembling the track shoes.

To make this servicing action on the oil-lubricated chains as efficient as achievable, it will have to be performed in good time and in compliance with the wear & tear tables provided by the chain manufacturer. In case the machine cannot be removed from operation upon reaching the wear & tear values thus tabled, even "dry" turning may prove to be of economic benefit. If oil leakage is not diagnosed too late, the service life can be extended by replacing sealant and replenishing oil also in chains with rotational bushings.

Non-lubricated chains of bulldozers and excavators

Sometimes the method of turning the pins and bushings and replacing the sealing elements makes economic sense even in the non-lubricated or grease-lubricated chains, particularly the chains in large machines.

Chain renovation

With the machines operated in difficult conditions, their chain bushings will become completely worn out already at a time when the remaining height of the track links reaches only 10 to 15 percent of their life span - in such a case it will be economically viable to renovate the chain by replacing all its pins and bushings. The price then charged for renovating a pair of chains will typically be much the same as the price of one new chain. Moreover, we renovate the track shoes by welding on them profiled sections made of abrasive-resistant materials (hardness 500 HB). Such materials are also sold by the meter (possibly cut to lengths and in quantities of the client's choice).
