Oil-lubricated bulldozer chains
Turning the bushings with re-sealing and topping up the oil charge, if carried out in time, allows the chain to be restored to the condition in which it was manufactured. The other undercarriage parts usually still have up to 50% of their service life remaining at the point when the chain bushings reach their wear limit (depending on operating conditions). Turning the chain bushings prevents premature wear-through of the bushing walls, pin damage and pitch increase (stretching), which would otherwise destroy the drive sprockets and prematurely end the usability of the entire undercarriage.
Turning the bushings of oil-lubricated chains includes:
- removing the shoes, disassembling the chain
- thorough cleaning of all components, replacement of excessively worn parts
- turning the pins and turning the bushings by 180°, fitting a new seal
- re-pressing, tightness check, topping up the oil, refitting the shoes
This service intervention is most effective on oil-lubricated chains when carried out in time, according to the wear values specified by the chain manufacturer. If the machine cannot be taken out of service when these wear values are reached, it is sometimes economically advantageous to turn the bushings "dry", without re-sealing. In the case of timely diagnosis of an oil leak, replacing the seal and topping up the oil can also extend the life of chains with rotating bushings.
Non-lubricated bulldozer and excavator chains
In some cases it is economically advantageous to turn the pins and bushings, including replacing the sealing elements, even on non-lubricated or grease-lubricated chains, which mainly concerns chains for large machines.
Chain renovation
When working in specific conditions, the chain bushings can become fully worn at a point when the link height is worn to only 10-15% of its service life. For these chains it can be economically advantageous to carry out a renovation by replacing all pins and bushings. The cost of such a renovation of one pair of chains is usually around the price of one completely new chain. We also renovate track shoes by welding on a wear-resistant profile with a hardness of 500 HB, which we also supply by the metre (cut to length and quantity as required by the customer).
