Two-component plates feature a weld overlay coating containing chromium carbide bonded in a composite material, which is joined to a weldable backing plate. The coated plate is known as one of the most wear-resistant materials available. It has been proven that the service life of composite plates is up to ten times longer than hardened steel under highly abrasive conditions.

The standard backing material made of mild steel forms the base onto which the wear-resistant surface material is welded, containing chromium carbide grains in a martensitic, austenitic, or combined structure.

The base backing material can also be used as a structural steel for manufacturing items such as hoppers or chutes, so that the entire product can be made solely from the coated plate.

Two-component plates are available in several different grades to suit different operating conditions requirements:

  • XR2355 – suitable for operating conditions with high abrasion and impact stress. Austenitic structure of chromium carbide grains
  • XR2455 – suitable for operating conditions with heavy impacts. Combination of austenitic and martensitic structure of chromium carbide grains
  • XR2560 – suitable for applications with high frictional abrasion, for fine-particle environments with low impact stress. Martensitic structure of chromium carbide grains

Hardness of the composite coating expressed on the Brinell scale:

  • hardness of two-component plates >= 600 HB (>= 58 HRC)
  • wear resistance is mainly determined by the presence of carbides Cr, Mn and Si in an appropriate ratio
